Warning to eBay Sellers about Promoted Listings Fees

want to share my experience to warn other sellers about unfair and unclear charges connected to eBay’s Promoted Listings – Priority.

I promoted a TV worth about £50, and in just three days I was charged nearly £30 in fees — even though the item never sold and I eventually had to remove it.

The problem is that eBay does not show a clear upfront cost for promoting an item. Instead, it gives vague wording like “fees are based on the company,” which is misleading. Sellers are left without a proper understanding of how much they might be charged.

This practice feels unfair because:

  • The fees can be disproportionate to the value of the item.

  • Sellers are charged even if the item does not sell.

  • The pricing information is not transparent or easy to understand.

I recommend that other sellers be very cautious before using Promoted Listings and always double-check what fees may apply. I also believe eBay needs to make this process much clearer and fairer for its customers.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Warning to eBay Sellers about Promoted Listings Fees

Ebay gives a suggested % fee for using in promotions. Seller can change the amount of the fee.

Using this sort of promotion you only pay a fee if item sells.  Apart from never being able to agree ebay’s calculation of fee, it works, even if it does not produce many buyers.

You obviously chose a promotion really intended for business sellers, where you pay fees for every click on the item, which is charged whether you get a sale or not.

This is the promotion to use, but in my opinion, best not to use any promotion.
