I recently sold a game card voucher

the buyer asked could I send the code via message after they paid, which I did

however eBay won’t pay out as they are waiting for “delivery” notification in the post

can anyone advise how to rectify this please?

Very unwise, do not be surprised if buyer opens a not received case and you will have to refund as you have no proof of delivery.

eBay will eventually release your payment.

Digital delivery of codes etc. is not allowed on eBay - proof of physical delivery is required to protect the seller. Without this, all the buyer has to do is use eBay's money back guarantee and claim not to have received the voucher.

Some buyers will exploit any mistake by the seller to get something for nothing. We've even had sellers who showed a picture of the voucher code in the advert, only to find - surprise, surprise! - that someone unknown had used it to redeem the voucher while it was still for sale!

Thank you for replying, I feel silly now at having sent the code to the buyer
As for the postage status, do I cancel the order?
As eBay is sending me reminders to post it
If I cancel the order and just take a loss on it?

No, don't cancel. 

Your buyer may be perfectly honest and you will get your payout as advised by @red_magpie .

Just bear in mind for future reference if you sell any more vouchers.
