Is it normal when you are informed you are the highest bid to see the VAT will be charged on the bid when no mention of VAT was obvious during placing the bid?

If item or seller are not in UK, you pay VAT. 

Some Chinese sellers have UK warehouse. 

If you look under postage section it will say "VAT may be payable ".

It states they are in Colchester, and nothing stated under postage that VAT might be payable.

A bit odd I think.

Did you check sellers feedback page for their location, item may be in Colchester, but not seller.

Have you paid for item?

There is a Glitch where ebay says VAT is payable but not charged if item and seller in UK.
