VaT on a second hand motor spare worth £60

Hello All, I've bought a used spare part for my motorbike valued at just over £60. Ebay has charged me VAT. The seller and I are both in the UK as is the item . They also added a Buyer Protection fee! How do I raise a request with EBay to get the VaT  and customer protection fee back?

Thanks in advance

Are you sure that the VAT isn't the postage element? The other issue could be depending on the amount is the seller's account registered in the UK, if not then it could be why you are seeing vat at 20% eg at £12 on the £60.

Hi,
Many thanks for your interest
The breakdown is:
Item     £58.54
Postage   £ 2.82
VaT     £ 12.27

The VaT has been charged on BOTH the item and the postage!

The seller is based in the UK and mailing from Ipswich

If the seller has any overseas links, e.g first registered on ebay.com, then VAT can end up being charged incorrectly.

You will need to take this up with ebay CS.

You are unlikely to receive a reply to a CS email --- best contact method is to request a Callback  here >

and for information >

Even if the item is located within the UK;  if either the UK located Buyer/Seller is using/or has an account that was originally registered outside the UK ,  then Import VAT and any other duty is charged.
