I bought a KM top, received the Pay Now notification and quickly paid for it, not realising that eBay must have set up a default authentication option. The top was only £8.50, which was doubled to pay for authentication which I did not want, did not select (I’ve never heard of it). I only noticed this after I queried why it was taking so long to be delivered, tracked it to Ruislip, the authentication depot ! The option must have been set as a default as I haven’t selected it. I’m furious ! Why would I want that service for an £8.50 top ??? So angry. I’ve been purchasing off eBay very regularly for well over 20 years and never had this happen.

I suggest you read this as zi can only assume that you have set up something by mistake.

Hi John, sorry but the link takes me to the Help page, not to anything in particular. You mentioned my settings, but I’ve never changed my settings, not for years anyway.

Hi John. The link didn’t work, but I think it would only take me to the article about authentication which I have already read. The article didn’t help really, which is why I thought someone on Community could help me. I haven’t touched settings in a long time. Also, when I came to pay, it must have automatically defaulted at that option as I didn’t select anything. Any ideas ?

John, on reading more, it’s an option that can be added on at checkout on certain brands under £200. But. I didn’t select that, why would I ? So I think what is happening is that it’s defaulting with that additional cost and you have to deselect it, which is very wrong in my opinion. I can’t think of anything else it could be. What do you think ?
