I want to buy an item that is tax exempt for me due to disability…how can I buy it without paying tax automatically? Chat bot is useless…tax info on eBay doesn’t cover it. Seller doesn’t know. Can’t get a live chat or call back with an agent. No pull down option during checkout for exempt option. Any help appreciated

There is no ebay process for this. You and the seller will have to see if you can make it work using HMRC's published guidance.
The seller may have to refund the VAT charged.

I tried your question on AI and it came back with the following from HMRC: "You cannot "reclaim" VAT on a disability aid that was already an exempt (zero-rated) item, as you should not have been charged VAT in the first place. If you were charged VAT by mistake on an eligible item, you must seek a refund from the supplier, not from HMRC"
If your seller is a UK business seller, but has included VAT in their price, surely the answer is for them not to include it? Or of there's some reason why they can't do this, to refund you for VAT wrongly charged.
If either the seller or the item is outside the UK this may be a case in which eBay adds VAT to the price. In this case it would be up to eBay to refund you - but good luck if you try! You could start by contacting customer support - if you can get through to them!
There are some items that it makes sense to buy on eBay, and some that are better bought elsewhere. If neither eBay nor the seller can give you an immediate and simple answer, this sounds like the latter.
