Simple Delivery and Royal Mail charges

I'm a private seller and only sell the odd item now and again.  Last week I sold something and opted for Simple Delivery, buyer pays, and arranged for Royal Mail to collect.  All went really well and was NOT charged by Royal Mail for the collection.  Today I've sold something else and opted to do the same Simple Delivery via Royal Mail and was directed to Royal Mail web site where they wanted to charge 30p to collect it.  Has the system/charging been changed in the last week?

I believe that is standard and has been for some time. Possibly you were lucky and not asked first time.

A friend does not now use RM collections, delivers to a local collection point ( only about 200 yards away) to avoid paying the 30p.

Found something out which might interest your friend although a 200 yd walk might be good for him!  The difference between paying 30p or not seems to depend on what and where you 'click' first.  If you click on book a collection first you don't get charged the 30p.  If you click on Royal Mail first you get redirected to their web page where you book the collection and have to pay the 30p.
