Simple Delivery - Royal Mail or Evri?

Since many of my listings are CDs or DVDs worth less than £20, I can often choose custom postage rather than Simple Delivery. I offer free postage / delivery, so feel obliged to offer both Evri and Royal Mail as options for Simple Delivery, as I object to having to pay more for Royal Mail if I exclude Evri. I should add that I've only occasionally had problems with Evri, but I know that many buyers and sellers hate it. I'd always assumed that where items are listed with Simple Delivery with both Royal Mail and Evri as options, then it's up to the buyer to choose the delivery service. Most of my sales with Simple Delivery have come up with Evri rather than Royal Mail, which rather surprised me. Then a couple of weeks ago a buyer enquired why the Simple Delivery had automatically come up with Evri, as they would have preferred Royal Mail. I couldn't understand why this had happened, so apologised, saying that I definitely had both options set in my postage preferences and was unable to change the service retrospectively once the order had been placed.  Luckily, the buyer accepted this, the delivery went well and positive feedback was left. However, I now wonder if potential buyers are actually being offered a choice or being forced into accepting Evri. Until now I can only recall 2 or 3 of my Simple Delivery orders using Royal Mail. Has anyone else noticed this?

Another thing - I don't want to change my postage preferences for Simple Delivery, but whenever I check them, just in case they've been changed without my knowledge, I find that I have Royal Mail, Evri and DHL enabled - so far, so good - but that there is no longer an option to change them. In fact, there's no way for me to edit anything on that page. Can anyone explain this?

Simple Delivery - Royal Mail or Evri?

Buyers cannot choose the carrier, the only options are standard tracked delivery-normally Evri or Express tracked delivery-normally Royal Mail, it's a shame not being able to choose a specific carrier at checkout.

Simple Delivery - Royal Mail or Evri?

How very odd. I still don't get it. Have checked my sold items over the past couple of months and there are definitely a few Simple Delivery orders that went by standard (not Express) Royal Mail tracked rather than Evri.  For example, a couple of magazines and a large hardback where the order details state:  'Buyer selected postage service Standard Tracked Delivery via Royal Mail.' In addition, sometimes when I make purchases from private sellers, they also come up as Royal Mail Simple Delivery. For example, I placed an order today and the tracking details state: 'Postal service Standard tracked delivery, courier Royal Mail.' The only option the buyer can actually select is whether the order is sent by standard or Express tracked.  Who knows what criteria are applied by eBay for delivery of any particular order - it's a complete mystery to me - and why occasionally they choose Royal Mail not Evri, but then logic is hardly something that one associates with Simple Delivery, anyway.
