Hi I am selling things that have been in my loft do I have to pay tax it not a business

As the items are your own unwanted ones, tax man won't be interested.

That is not an Ebay decision.

Nobody knows your circumstances but, as long as you are selling your own personal items, there is no tax liability.

Ebay does have to report your sales to HMRC if your sales during the year reach a certain level - currently either 30 items or items to the value of about £1700.

Then, if HMRC think you are trading, they could contact you and ask you for more information.

Generally though, as a private seller unloading unwanted items, you do not have to complete a tax return and you won't be liable to pay any tax.

 

I did have a look at a couple of your listings - hope you don't mind my pointing out that the black Man U shorts say 'size on photos' but then the photo of the label is completely blurry.  I would put the size in the title as people might search by size and won't find your items if they do.
