Seller won’t refund a defective product

I bought a refurbished coffee machine but on receipt, the machine wouldn’t dispense the correct amount of coffee and then it seized up and completely seized up. The seller is refusing to give me a refund because I had to change the plug, as the one supplied with the machine wouldn’t fit into my kitchen socket. But, this is completely irrelevant to the fact that the machine is faulty.

Can someone please advise me what to do?

Thank you

If you are within 30 days of buying, open item not as described case.

Seller supplies returns label,  you post back for full refund.

Escalate on day 4 if no label or refund.

Ignore seller excuses.

Thank you for your advice.

I have sent the machine back to the seller but they’re refusing to give me a refund.

I had to change the plug because it wouldn’t connect properly to the socket in my kitchen.

They’re saying that this is invalidating the warranty because I didn’t ask their permission.

I refute that because changing the plug couldn’t have possibly impacted the performance of the grinder which is faulty.

You are supposed to return items in the condition you received them in.

Did you use ebay's return process?

Thanks for the advice but that’s not possible with a coffee machine. The only way to find out it’s faulty is to actually use it

You are allowed to use something to test it, but you altered it by fitting a new plug and so gave the seller an excuse not to refund you.

If I was returning the product because I’d changed my mind I’d agree with you but that’s not the case here.

I returned the product because it’s faulty and so I’d have thought the fact I’d changed the plug would be irrelevant. The machine is defective, was not fit for purpose and therefore I should be entitled to my money back

Did you return within 30 days using the Ebay Money Back Guarantee?
