Seller cancelled order after I collected and paid for it

As the title says I collected the item a few days ago, paid cash, but today the buyer has cancelled the order on my behalf!

I've never come across this before in 20 years of using ebay.

I can't find a way of letting ebay know I didn't cancel and wonder should I be concerned about this?

eBay does not allow items to be paid for by cash.

It sounds as though your seller was a business seller, as only a business seller could give you a collection address before you paid through eBay. As private sellers no longer pay fees only a business seller would now be able to get a refund of fees by cancelling the sale.

By agreeing to pay in cash you have also disqualified your purchase from the protection of eBay's money back guarantee.

If you want to report the seller for untruthfully claiming that you had asked to cancel the sale see: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/resolving-issues-sellers/report-issue-seller?id=4022&st=12&pos=1&...

Collect in person payments should go through ebay checkout now, (no longer cash on collection ) so maybe the reason he cancelled his end

Paying cash is against eBay's rules now.

A collection item after purchase can only be paid for at eBay checkout by card payments, or PayPal , cash is not allowed.

Not even sure how the seller managed to give you contact details to come and collect the item because on eBay it will show as unpaid .

This looks like an off eBay sale, so nothing you can do to correct this.

eBay do read all messages going through their system, eBay may take action against anyone who breaks eBay rules.

Thank you all for your replies.  Desite being a member for 20 years I did not know this, as most people nowadays  want payment by card, but this seller specifically asked for cash on collection.

His replies make sense now; sending his address over several separate messages and showing his location on a map, after I'd asked for more specific information, as google maps showed you couldn't access it by car.

If the item is faulty I have absolutely no redress at all, as it's been wiped from my purchase history. I'm surprised ebay allowed him to do this without checking with me first.

It's not in your Purchase History because you didn't purchase it via eBay checkout.

eBay can't prevent buyers and sellers from doing 'off eBay' deals, common sense should kick in at this point and buyers should realise that if they pay cash they have no buyer protection at all.

It wasn't an 'off ebay' deal. We communicated via ebay messaging. It was no
different to the dozens of cash on collection purchases I've made over the
last 20 years.

I had no idea a seller could cancel the order after collection. He was
being crafty.

Cash on collection worked fine for years.

Ebay have now decided that you have to pay via checkout, only then can you exchange contact info.

They were probably losing too many fees with sellers cancelling after payment.

If you don't pay through eBay checkout then it's not a purchase on ebay.

After you paid cash for it the seller cancelled the transaction, that's an off eBay deal.

Actually think yourself lucky as the seller could have hit you with an unpaid strike.
