It is possible to search for part of a keyword in the title and/or description?

For example, if I search for "hite" can i get eBay to list results for any word which contains hite such as white, or graphite?

The reason I ask is that I'm searching for product codes which begin with the number 504 so would be listed as 504xxxxx

No, have you tried it?

What category is your 504 item in? There may be a way to narrow it down a bit in Advanced Search.

it's in clothing however I have tried an advanced search but had no joy.

I posted here to see if anyone knew if there was any symbol/code for a partial-term search such as 504*, but it doesn't look like there is! It would be a cool feature.

I searched 504 in clothing, it brings up over 1000 levi 504's.

I doubt you can search by product code, as not all sellers will use it to list.

Have you tried searching using 504 then making up the other 5 numbers? You might find what you want coming up as similar items at the bottom of the list (If anything comes up at all).
