Returning an item from UK to Ireland

I had to return an item of clothing to Ireland, completed a customs form at the post office which was attached to the rear of the parcel. The item has been returned to me as non compliant to customs regulations. Anyone able to tell me what I did wrong? Would a courier be better?

It would help to know what you put on the customs form. Did you complete all boxes, including reason “returned goods”

I long ago stopped posting to the Republic of Ireland for this reason, they did not seem to look at a Customs Declaration on the back of a package, when the address label covered the front.
