Return/refund as a seller

I have just had a message off Ebay to say a buyer requested a return and they said they have stepped in and refunded the buyer and they don't have to send item back but that I wont be charged for refund! Im totally confused, I had no message off buyer, didn't get a return request, don't know why they requested a return etc and cant find anywhere it says why. Also what does eBay mean by I wont be charged? Surely the refund will come out of my account? Don't understand why they don't need to send it back either??? Any help is appreciated

When you send items using Simple Delivery, if the buyer opens a case because the item is damaged in transit, Ebay deal with the case.

They refund the buyer who does not need to return the item and release the buyer's payment to you.
