I am currently away on holiday until start of May. I have open return requests but can’t check if items have been received and are in same condition as I dispatched until I’m back. I wanted to check if this would cause ebay to automatically refund the buyers.

If you don't refund within 3 days ebay will do it for you.  That will damage your account.
