I am selling a larger item that will be quite a large sum- £800 +.
If my buyer pays via paypal - will I receive funds immediately? How do I know it is ok to hand over item?
What if they pay by credit/debit card?
Just want to make sure I get my money

When you say you are selling a larger item, will you be listing it as a Collection Only item?
If so, then cash on collection is no longer allowed. After the buyer purchases the item, they have to pay through eBay checkout, by PayPal, card payment, Google or Apple pay, you will not know by which method the buyer will pay, nor does it matter. eBay will confirm and send you a message the buyer has paid, and then you are able to exchange contact information.
One very important thing to be aware of .
The buyer must bring with them a 6 digit QR code for you to scan or enter numbers manually, alongside.... Confirm Collection. This is your only proof the item was collected. Remind the buyer to bring this and that the item will not be released without it.
Payment holds are placed for different reasons. A new or infrequent seller, unusual selling pattern e.g. suddenly listing an expensive item, then the payout can be held for longer.

Any hold will not be fully explained by eBay as most are for security reasons, so different lengths of holds are placed for various different reasons relating to item, cost, seller account etc.
The actual method pf payment the buyer chooses, be it PayPal / credit card, Google Pay etc., makes no difference to any hold eBay may or may not place on the payout.
