Have you opened a Not as Described case, that is how returns are made.
If seller does not provide a return label, which would no doubt be a QR code within 3 days then you escalate the case to ebay.
I doubt that your postman would be able to help as the Post Office would be the place to get the label printed. You could speak to the postman, as he may be aware of the requirements and may be able to think of a way to help out.
Only by using the ebay system can you guarantee getting a refund.

More information would be useful.
How long have you had the item?
Have you opened a return case through Ebay?

Thanks. My inention was to make my own return label at Royal Mail so it could collected by them. I was sent an e-mail with a minute QR code on but have no way of reading it anyway so wanted it to do it my way and get it back to them. The item is a cassette reader but the "Play" butom willnot remail down but just pops up so obviously that is not the way they work. They also sent a ref to finding the QR code for a print out but the link they gave me was a blank page. Will try the ot as Described route tomorrow but to be honest i cant see me getting any luck from them. Thanks again.

Provided you are within 30 days of delivery, a not as described case through ebay is what you need to do.

You only have 30 days after delivery date given to open a formal 'Item not as described' (faulty) case below --- follow the instructions carefully and escalate case to eBay on day 4 for their assistance in obtaining a full refund >
