Price differences of postage rates compared to service providers own website

Hi,

I'm still fairly new to selling things through Ebay and I'm looking for help regarding the price differences between postage providers when you select them on Ebay, versus a price quote through the providers own website.

Since I started, I've only selected postage service providers instead of the simple delivery option through Ebay. When I select Royal Mail for example for an item classed as 'cabin luggage' size with a weight of 2kg, the default price starts at £5.15. Yet when I view the information leaflet I got in my nearest Royal Mail branch, the price for the same weight and dimensions is £6.45.

I wanted to re-list an item that will need Parcelforce 48. When I select them on the item page I'm drafting, the price for 'extra large suitcase' is £13.63. Yet when I wanted to get a quote through their own website using a random distant postcode, and dimensions a bit below the 'extra large suitcase', the price is £53.80.

I've tried looking through multiple community pages and on the internet and I'm either not looking in the right places, or the information I'm looking for can't be found. Could anyone provide some clarity on why the prices of postage on ebay is different to the prices you get from the services directly, particularly on the 2 examples provided?

I've been uncertain to try it, but would it be cheaper to buy the postage label for Royal Mail or Parcelforce through the Ebay site, or would these be rejected by the postage providers? I did see a few community pages where people who are trying to send an item through Royal Mail for example, had their item rejected due to underpayment.

Thanks for any help you can provide on the questions I have.
