Postage cost added on when selecting ‘collection’

I just made an offer on an item at £40 and clearly selected collection (no charge.)  Ebay asks for payment method and I selected ‘balance’ and used a discount code that was offered while I was there bringing it to £39.

The seller accepted.

Then ebay tells me accepted and I again have to tell it how I wanted to pay. I selected nothing because I now don’t see the option for collection only and it gives only the option to pay with postage charge.
i went off to research whats going on.

came back 10mins later and the transaction has gone through and charged my card £47 for the item+postage+VAT.

I want to cancel the purchase out of principle but ebay says I can’t until 2 days time. I find this completely unacceptable and I can’t believe how flaky ebay has gotten with everything around postage both as a buyer and a seller. I just don’t want to use it any more.

What are my rights here? Ebay is uncontactable as a seller, shall I just call my credit card company to cancel and refund the transaction?

You cannot cancel, all you can do is ask seller to cancel, that is assuming they have not already posted.

Without seeing the item you have purchased it is difficult to guess what the problem is but think it may be to due to using a discount code and Immediate Payment required.

Message seller asking to cancel, ask to collect, he should have your phone number, and then refund the postage.

However it may be difficult to mark as collected.
