How are you supposed to post your items when eBay are withholding the postage payments until the item is delivered.

Unless you post item, you won't get paid anyway.
No different than it was last week when money stays in ebay until you withdraw it.
If using simple delivery label is supplied at no cost to you.

If you are a private seller its likely that mostly you will be selling occasionally instead of all the time. Meaning that id ebay withhold postage aswell as payment for the item, how are you supposed to post the item if the postage money isn't available until its delivered.

Basically if you cannot afford to pay the postage until paid then you should not sell on ebay. Mostly you quote £3.95, hardly a fortune, but failing to post within time scale you give, and you will rapidly accumulate defects, become below standard and have selling restrictions imposed.

In the days of paypal, you would get money paid in there.
But you would still have to find postage money.
I agree this new system is not perfect, but it is how ebay now run it.
As said, If you fail to post within time you say you will then buyers will will soon complain.

Looks like this has been revised as from the latest announcement on the 3rd.
This states:
Starting from 4 February, UK-based private sellers will also be paid after item delivery. Funds will typically be available in your eBay balance two calendar days after delivery confirmation. Pending funds can also be used to buy postage labels and refund buyers.

How the do you know what other peoples financial position is? If you don't have anything positive to say then don't say it.

I've never bought my postage from eBay either, I prefer to use my little village Post Office run by the nicest family.
If and when Simple Delivery will be made compulsory and I won't be able to buy their postage , it certainly is not the best solution for me .
I do have a printer but the cartridges aint cheap. I'm also not in possession of an i phone as the ol' brick of a Nokia, serves my purposes of phone calls and texts only, very well , so I will not be able to receive any QR codes. My son swears it's run by some disused lost satellite in space. 🙄
