Paid extra for fast shipping

Hello. I was offered 2 shipping options when making a purchase.

Fed Ex priority 1 to 3 days $199

DHL economy $119.

I chose the faster option but the seller has sent it by the DHL economy as I have checked the tracking.

The item hasn't arrived and probably won't be here for another week.

I contacted Ebay who sent me an email this morning to return the item when it arrives if not happy. It would cost me alot as the parcel was sent from Germany to Uk and I still want the item. What options do I have to retrieve the $80 as the seller us not responding to messages.

Re: Paid extra for fast shipping

By rights if the item arrives you could open an item not as described as the postage was not sent as described which would then mean the seller would have to pay return costs. Yes a little harsh, and not an option I would err on.

Apart from that there is very little you can do if the seller is not responding apart from leaving feedback accordingly. There is no mechanism for the either of you to raise a new invoice as such, except via paypal or via IBAN for the refund in packaging in euros. YOu could mark the DSR ratings down which would be the correct course of action.

You must make up your mind whether you are prepared to return it, or not.

If you are, as the item is already overdue for delivery you can open an "item not received" case. If it arrives while the case is open, you can ask ebay to change it to an "item not as described" case (the seller should be required to pay for the return postage).

The seller might instead offer you a partial refund equal to the $80 payment overcharge, which would probably be the ideal solution. But they might not, in which case you have to either go through with the return, or cancel it and accept your loss.
