Not using Simple Delivery for low value items - how?

Received a communication from eBay about a new way of posting cheaper items and not using Simple Delivery.

Can anyone explain how to get to use this option? I have tried unsuccessfully on various low value items but nothing seems to work. Guessing it might be down to wording used? Also guessing that eBay decide when this can be used but how? Do I need to use words/descriptions for items mentioned in their communications?

Grateful for any tips or hints.

It has nothing to do with the wording of your description - it depends on the category you use.

Take for example the vintage BA badges you listed.

They may be exempt from SD - they are under £20, under 100g and would fit Large Letter dimensions.

However, you have listed them here:

Looking at other members' listing for badges, a lot of sellers are choosing their own postage.

Experiment with categories - try listing your badges as

It is not on value.

It only applies to certain categories, what are you trying to list?

Items must be no more than £20, and weigh no more than 100 gms. and be an exempt category.

Unhelpfully ebay give no list of categories, and no longer show category on listings.

One way round this is if you have an item that can be sent by Large letter, look for a similar listing, and if the postage is under £2 then it is not simple postage.
Click where it says on the left, got one like this, and it will bring up the listing page showing what category is being used, so use same category.

Ebay have changed things again, look top left of listing and use list similar, then you can see what category is being used, or

Have one to sell?

Thank you for your suggestion, tried it on my problem items by tweaking the categories and managed to get the Custom Postage box appear for all allowing me to use the cheaper postage option.

Many thanks

You are welcome - glad it worked.

The system is not very intuitive so sellers may have to be a bit creative!
