Hi there.
I sold a new mother of the bride outfit for £65.
I always clearly ensure my adverts contain detailed measurements.
The transaction fees for the sale charged by Ebay equated to £10.65.
The buyer requested a return, as it was stated it "didn't fit."
However upon return it wasn't quite in the condition as dispatched.
I contacted the buyer and she agreed to a partial refund.
I only deducted £5 from the refund as it required a minor repair and the buyer had put her hands up and admitted to the damage.
I noted today my case has been closed with Ebay...however no refund has been given from Ebay for my transaction fees (£10.65).
Hence I am personally out of pocket by £5.65.
I have contacted Ebay who state this is their policy: when a full or partial refund is issued the transaction fees are not refunded. There are no exceptions.
I perfectly understand that this is only a relatively small amount I am claiming, but as I explained to Ebay it is more the principle of this matter.
It's suggesting to sellers to keep your mouth shut and don't mention any damage to a buyer if the amount refunded to them will be lesser than your transaction fees.
This is an unfair policy which should be re-visted and reviewed on a case-to-case basis.

Your transaction fees are built in to the refund you give, so for example a buyer bought something for £100 and the selling fee was 10% and you refund in full you would only give £90 back as ebay make the difference in fees. In the same breath you, you pay a seller back £95 and keep a fiver for the repair ebay will only make up the £95 in fees.
You are correct though you don't get the listing fees or if you had promotional fees on the item etc.
In all honesty you have two hopes of ebay reviewing these sorts of things on a case by case, Bob Hope and No Hope.
