No collection code

The buyer has just collected the item and paid in cash. He did not have the collection code. How do I flag the listing as collected in person on the eBay app?

No collection code

No need to send invoice, ebay does it automatically.

Once buyer pays, you can send address.

You are no longer allowed to accept cash so the systems aren't set up for people who somehow manage to break the rules and do it.

The buyer only gets the code when they pay through checkout.

How did the buyer get your address?  Giving that out without payment first is another policy breach.

The buyer was collecting in person, and paying cash, which is allowed for larger items as far as I know.

I gave the buyer the collection address as a note in the Ebay invoice, which was sent to him via the Ebay system.

If you are accepting a cash payment and the buyer is collecting in person, please advise how else this may be done?

You are allowed to accept cash for local pickups :

How to arrange a local pickup

After making your purchase, contact the seller to arrange a time and place to collect your item, and agree on how you’ll pay for it.

The seller will let you know which payment methods they accept. In addition to credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal, you can sometimes pay for local pickup items by internet banking, check, or money order—either beforehand or when you pick up your item. Sellers may also accept cash for local pickup purchases.

After you’ve completed your purchase, we’ll send an email with a Local Pickup code (a QR code and a 6 digit code) to your Messages. You can either print off your email or show the seller the message on the app when you collect your item. The seller will scan or enter the code on the eBay app to confirm you’ve picked up your item.

Your info is out of date, recently changed.

Payment options for local collection

Buyers who choose collection in person must generally complete checkout using approved electronic payment methods. Cash on collection is available only in a limited number of categories, such as Cars, Motorcycles, & Vehicles.

That's not what it says here, it only refers to larger items unsuitable for shipping, not vehicles.

Many sellers offer free local pickup, especially for large items which may be difficult to ship. You can collect the item in person, inspect it before you take it home, and save money by not having to pay for shipping.
When you purchase an item that's available for local pickup, you'll receive information on the item's location at checkout. If you need to know more before purchasing, select Contact seller on the listing.

The others are correct.   It's only a recent change and ebay are notorious for leaving out of date info on their site.   You have the cash now so don't worry about it.     Just mark as dispatched and leave it at that.

Thanks.

How do I mark it as dispatched? On the 'Manage all Orders' page the drop down is a filter, it doesn't flag the item as dispatched.

Sorry, I'm a newbie.

The section of text you are quoting is from ebay.com, the USA site.

https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/shipping-delivery/changing-delivery-address-method/local-pickup?id=...

As advised, in the UK, cash on collection is no longer an option.  The UK pages refer to 'local collection' and advise buyers and sellers that cash on collection is only available for certain, limited categories.

Not sure where you'd do it on the app.   On a desktop it's via the dropdown actions menu next to the item on your orders page.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a different help section on the UK site if the rules are different to the US. Just saying.

The info we provided was from ebay.co.uk.

You are in UK, non UK ebay sites may have different policies.

It won't let me unless I enter the collection code, and I'm still waiting for the buyer to get back to me with it.

With recent policy change, buyer won't get collection code until they pay through ebay checkout.

All you can do is mark as dispatched.

So where on Earth does one find the UK help section, if it redirects you to the US?

He bought it on Ebay, but didn't pay upfront, so I guess he won't have a collection code.

Thanks for the guidance. It would appear that I can get the buyer to confirm collection through the items order details. I guess I'll just have to hope he can be bothered.

Just to confirm. The buyer must pay upfront when they purchase an item on Ebay, even when it's for collection rather than post. How do I give them the collection address?

2 things you cannot mark as dispatched from your end as seller @**peaseblossom**  and @tobiasd4  if the item is sold as collection only the 6 digit code is only generated and sent to the buyer, this is then added to instead of mark as dispatched to a new link called confirm collection.

to the op if doing collection only in future you can share address details once payment has been made via eBay.

Once buyer pays, you can exchange contact info.

You manged to do this by adding address to invoice.

Thanks. Can that be done on the Ebay messaging system once a buyer has paid, or do I have to send an invoice? I tried to send the guy who bought the item my address on the messaging system and it wouldn't let me.

Yea it can be once payment has been received. Make it clear in the message that they have paid hence why you sharing an address for collection. We always start ours with thank you for your payment also add in this message when you come to collect your item please ensure you have the 6 digit collection code as items cannot be released with out this.

Cheers, that puts my mind at rest. I only have a few items to sell, but I'd rather just stick them in a local paper if I had to go through this rigmarole every time I put them on eBay.
