No Return Label Brought For Return Collection

As above.  Collection arranged for 18.8.2026. Parcel Postie, who is a complete sweetheart, came to collect but had no label. She told me that a label has to be requested at point of sale of postage. My printer is dead - and even if it did have life I would not be best pleased seeing as an ink cartridge is £16+ a pop.  I am housebound with severe MH problems. No help on eBay so Googled and found that it is called "Bring My Label Service" and costs a whopping 30p. I informed Seller of this new (to me, anway - every day's a school day) information on the same day and asked her to raise another label and have the postie bring it. Seller ignored my message to her on Wed (collection day). Then yesterday 19.3.2026 status on return was "Return Window Closed on 19 March 2026" - WTH does that mean? What do I do now - I've been all around the houses on eBay "Help" and I got that chatty with the Bot that we're going for a drink next week 🙂  Nah, told him/her that he/she needed a reboot - it didn't compute and malfunctioned. I boring myself now 🙂

Please can someone give me guidance on what to do now and clarity on "window closed" meaning.

Thanks for reading. Magene x

The 'return window closed' means that you have left it too long to send your item back and you are out of time to return it.

As far as I know, sellers are simply not able to request that Royal Mail bring a label for a return.

It is up to the buyer to print the label for the return, even if this is difficult.

The labels are issued by ebay, not seller.

Unfortunately they don't allow for people who can't print label or take QR code to PO for them to print it.

You could complain to ebay, don't I doubt they will change anything.

Thanks for your reply.

I have not left it too long - the return by date is 27 March.

Given your answer, therefore ebay should offer Bring My Label  for seller to request for buyer.

Buyer should have the option to request this from seller.

If ebay and/or the seller are concerned about the 30p COST, I would happily pay the whopping 30p!

Nice to see ebay being top of the chart for being the most discriminatory platform online:

Poverty Stigma: Discriminatory toward buyers who cannot afford a printer and/or ink cartridge

(which are £15 a pop - feed or print).

Disability: Discriminatory towards buyers whose mental and/or physical health prevents them

from going out.

This palaver is still going on to date. Cannot open a case.  Seller does not respond to messages. I tried to buy the 30p collection label fee and the Royal Mail website (I have an account) does not recognise the tracking number. Ebay keep sending me emails to return the item with the same tracking number that is not recognised by RM!!!

Thanks, again.

Does the return show a 'closed' status?

If the return has now closed then your only option now is to pay for the return yourself. You can buy a label from the Royal Mail website and select to have it collected and for them to bring a label, it does cost 30p though (in addition to the return cost).

Sellers can't issue return postage labels that offer collection, so this is something that should be factored in when buying from any online platform (most operate in the same way as eBay with return postage labels). If return labels can't be printed then the QR code can be shown at your local PO and they can print the label. Obviously, if anyone is unable to go out and has nobody to help them then this is going to pose a problem when returning items bought online.

Thanks for your reply.

Please see my reply to jckl1957 which covers your response to me.

Your comment about ebay - I will complain to ebay - if I could even contact them.

I will also be contacting Watchdog, Rip Off Britain, Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, etc.

I found this which contradicts perceived 'rules' and is exactly what I'm talking about...

I could have written that myself word for word.

I am on a mission!

Thanks, again.
