Nightmare buyer

I've had a proper nightmare experience with a recent buyer.

He bought an item and upon receiving claimed it wasn't working - a total lie. Sends me a stream of abusive messages demanding a full refund.

I decided to check his feedback, and lo and behold sellers aplenty complaining about him (I didn't think to check beforehand as he had 100% rating - obviously because of the stupid rule that buyers can't receive negative feedback).

Anyway, he opened a return case and I accepted. I think this surprised him - he was hoping I'd just refund him and he'd get to keep the item for nothing. Now, as he hasn't got his own way, he's closed said return case. And yet the negative feedback he left me (my only one in 15 years) still remains.

eBay did remove the comment, but what's the point in that if the rating is still there and damaging my score? Nor can I leave a comment beneath it to explain its presence to future potential buyers. Bonkers. eBay won't remove it, even though a chat 'expert' promised me that the rating would be automatically removed when the case was resolved?

This scummy scam buyer broke - and continues to break - every site rule and gets off with it scot-free. I follow every rule and am penalised for it. Makes no sense.

Is there anything at all I can do to get this rating removed? Many thanks for reading.

I don't understand why ebay do that.   If they recognise the buyer is wrong they should have removed the whole thing.   All you can do is keep on at ebay.

Report him again here:

Scroll down to the very bottom to Request Feedback Removal on here:

You can also contact ebay using callback on here:

And don't forget to put his ID on your blocked bidder list:

Good luck.

I am afraid that now ebay has taken some action with the feedback, that is it.  It is a risk when you ask for negative feedback to be removed that they just remove the comments, in some ways it is perhaps better to leave a calm factual response under the negative and leave it alone.

The mind boggles, makes no sense to me!

Thank you for those links.

On reflection, I probably should have done just that. However, I didn't think for a second that the comment would be removed but not the rating - I didn't even know that was a thing. Lesson learned!

It is always a good idea to think (maybe for 24 hours) before you hit the button to publish something that will be on your account forever.

You have 99% positive feedback.  A single negative would not put me off buying from you.  However, this shouty comment, which breaks Ebay feedback rules, would put me off:

PROLIFIC EBAY SCAMMER. SO MANY OTHER SELLERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PERSON IN HIS FEEDBACK - WISH I HADN'T GIVEN HIM A CHANCE, NOW. PRETENDS ITEM IS BROKEN FOR A FULL REFUND SO HE CAN HAVE IT FOR NOTHING. AN UTTER DISGRACE. AVOID!

I get your point but I was spitting mad at the time and didn't see why he should continue to get away with doing this. I don't want other sellers getting caught out like I did.

Trouble is that buyer could probably get that removed and that would do more damage to your selling account, than a negative with a proper response.
