Hello.
I am asking for some help and advice of who I contact on behalf of my granddaughter. I am going around in circles trying to reach customer services.
My Autistic Granddaughter preordered an item from a seller in the USA in January this year. She paid a staggering £99.09 for a collectible figure that she believed could only be available in America.
Roll forward to yesterday. She received a eBay message from the seller saying it had arrived and that he didn’t have her details to forward it, and he would list it cheap for her to buy in now so it opened up a channel to send it and he would refund her back straight away minus a dollar so it didn’t get taken off again. He sent her the link to buy it for $20.
my granddaughter promptly sent it but eBay added delivery and tax so her payment was £30.80 in total and he refunded her £17.62
I am confused how this can happen and he says he can’t refund it and ask eBay. But as I’ve said I have no way to contact them as I am going around in circles.
Apparently the figure is on its way (But I have since found it is now available to preorder in the UK for £35 all in!! Lesson learnt)!
I would appreciate if somebody can point me in the right direction to at least get the money from yesterday back for her or is this some sort of new scam and as she paid it we don’t stand a chance?
thanks in advance
Angela

eBay have a 30 day money back guarantee against an item not arriving, or not being as described when it does.
PayPal also have 30 day Buyer protection.
A payment funded by a debit or credit card gives you 120 days to issue a chargeback.
Unfortunately, all of those timeframes to pursue a refund for the original payment have now passed.

Was it a link to an eBay listing? Did she pay via eBay checkout?

Thank you. She paid through Apple Pay so I look into that. There is screen shots and the seller didn’t get the postage sent to him he printed off the payment slip which make me think that it is hopeless as that was used. Although this would have all be paid in January originally.
I’m just gutted for her. It is hard enough adulting without difficulties sometimes and she is not made of money. She is vulnerable though. But at least she is learning how unfair life is at times.
I don’t think the seller has been deceitful but feel Mayb eBay shouldn’t allow sellers to sell items they do not have in hand or have the facilities for such a situation.
I am not after January's money back. I understand she has overpaid for a plastic figure and that is on her. But to then have to pay again in the promise of it being returned immediately (which he did to b fair) but all the eBay charges for the postage etc seems unfair).
I wonder if we can cancel the order but he has marked it sent now so that won’t be an option
Any way. Thank you for ur time. I will probably end up making her whole out of my pocket and have to monitor more closely in future.
Regards
Angela

Have a read of eBay's policy -

The additional fees would have been VAT etc which the buyer would have no sight of or be able to intervene with.
