Making An Offer to a Buyer

I have a live listing and have allowed potential buyers to make offers. However, I have an e-Bay account holder who has messaged me directly, offering to buy the item at a stated price and that I should make an offer back to them at that price, which they would accept.

Is this a risk to me? I don't understand why they would not simply select the option on the listing to offer me the amount they are proposing.

It is quite an expensive item and I am wary of any possible scam attempt.

I would reply and say you are unable to send them an offer.

Tell them you are happy for them to make an offer as permitted by the listing.

If they won't do that, don't deal with them.

This sale needs to follow Ebay procedures so you and the buyer get the benefit of the authenticity guarantee

Re: Making An Offer to a Buyer

Thanks very much jckl1957. That's exactly what I thought and your advice re-assures me that I am not missing out on a possible sale by being overly cautious.

Thanks again - much appreciated.

I assume it is the watch.

Only post to address supplied when buyer pays, it will be authenticator address, not buyers home address.

Re: Making An Offer to a Buyer

Hi everyone - just a quick note to confirm that this sale completed successfully and in the way that I expected, ie the Buyer making an offer in the "normal" way and a final sale price negotiated that was a "win-win" outcome.

Thanks again for your advice - it gave me the confidence that I was taking the right approach and helped to secure a good outcome.
