I sold an item. It cost me £66 to list it but the item was returned. It cost me £25 to post it and the listing stated THEY pay for postage.
The return is completed. I’ve received the returned item but I’m out of pocket £91. Is this normal?

Listing costs are never refunded and sellers always lose out on outgoing postage for a return.
So yes, this is correct.

If the buyer returned the ring for a 'change of mind' reason, they would have to pay to get the ring back to you - it should have been sent back via the authenticator. As a private seller, you did not have to accept such a return. You do 'lose' the postage you paid out to send the item.
The fee you mentioned was not a listing fee as Ebay don't charge private sellers listing fees.
The first time you listed the ring, you listed it with a reserve with an optional but non-refundable fee of 4% of the reserve price.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond.
As soon as it was confirmed I lost out on the fee, I immediately rang my credit card company who have refunded the bill. I loose out on postage of course but I find that odd because it was always stated they pay.
My total bill was actually £106, including listing, protection & postage. I got £79 back from the credit card dispute.
I have a certificate detailing the clarity of the diamond with flaws marked on the GIA. The seller to complained at those specifics which were clear from the listing. He returned the item due to this. I had no option to contest.
I find it morally wrong that I should lose out this amount because someone changed their mind. Suffice to say, I’ll take the postage charge on the chin and I doubt I’ll ever use eBay again.
