I'm confused I am a private seller and eBay have suddenly  started charging the buyers of my last two sales vat. I don't understand why it's just started without warning and what my obligations are

Ebay do now add a buyer protection fee to every sale from a private seller - that works out at 4% + 72p for each item.  Is that the additional charge you are seeing?

If you sell to members outside of the UK, then 20% VAT is added.

Can you send a screenshot of where 20% has been added to a price - all the details and payment breakdown are shown in 'payment details' for all of your sold items.

In all similar queries it is either VAT on postage or VAT on the buyer protection fee,  both of which are charged correctly on services provided by ebay.

It's not VAT on the item.

Hi papso22 thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. That makes sense and I did not consider it from that angle. Also it has been charged on the first times I have used Evri so that explains it. Thanks again for your help.

Hi jckl1957 thank you for taking the time to contact me. I had another reply saying that in similar queries it is ebay charging vat on either the protection fee or postage and as It happened on the first times I used evri that makes sense.
