You had to open a case within 30 days of receipt and then use the label provided by the seller to send the item back.

Once the tracking showed the seller had the item back, after 48 hours, unless the seller refunded voluntarily, you could have asked Ebay to step in and they would have ensured you got a refund.

If you just leave a case, after 21 days of inactivity, it will close.

What went wrong here?

Did you open a case in time?

Between the 20th March and 9th April you should have asked ebay to step in.  What happened was that the case timed out.

So, the case closed because of inactivity.

You have to be proactive and follow cases up rather than just assuming everything will be sorted out.  The details are here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-poli...

After you request a return

The seller should provide you with a prepaid label to return the item. They may also offer another solution, such as sending you a replacement or giving you a partial refund while you keep the item.

After 3 business days, if the seller didn't get back to you or you're not satisfied with their resolution, you can ask us to step in and help. We'll look into it and find a fair solution.

We'll keep your return open for 21 business days. After that, if there's been no activity, we'll assume everything is sorted out and close the return. Once a return is closed, it can't be reopened.

Hopefully, other buyers might see this thread and make sure they read all the relevant details befor they start a return request using the Ebay Money Back Guarantee.

Re: I bought A S24 ULTRA back in feb this year, nearly £700

You say proactive. So me sending messages to the seller umpteen times
asking for money isn't being proactive
I didn't even have a phone to do this so had to use public laptops on the
isle of sky to try and sort this as the phone had been sent back. Surely
ebay has liability to get money from seller as the seller has paid Ebay to
sell a product and that product did not work. What happened to the buyers
protection. I have a 100% positive feedback after buying and selling
hundreds if not thousands of items over the years.
And since there is a time limit and the seller obviously knew this (even
though I did not) he has obviously waited long enough without answering
my messages knowing that the case will be closed. This is worst customer
service ever. Ebay gets their money anyway so it's all obviously corrupt
as if literally can't get in touch with a seller what else are you ment to
do?.
And like I say I didn't have a phone to use, so it wasn't easy. But hey ho,
Ebay don't give a dam as they get paid anyway. Totally dissatisfied With
it all to be honest
