How can a potential buyer view a large item like a car

How can a potential buyer view a large item like a car before they buy when it is against ebay policy to exchange contact details?

Re: How can a potential buyer view a large item like a car

Thank you

Out of interest how can they view a car to make sure it is suitable before they purchase?

The reason I ask is there are few people I know who will part with a significant sum of money until they have determined the car is correct for them.

Does that make sense?

Vehicles are cash on collection but a buyer has to win an auction, or do a buy it know, before you can exchange contact details.

Buying and paying are separate processes for cars.

@3dgroup-trading

Buyers don't pay for the car (there isn't a way that they can pay via eBay checkout for a car, eBay won't accept electronic payments, cars are cash on collection or bank transfer on collection only).

So, they need to win the auction/use the Buy It Now and then you can make arrangements for them to come and view the car before they hand over their payment. If they don't want to go ahead, you simply cancel the order.

To clarify re:- Classified Ads.
You only pay £19.99 to list for 30 days and eBay allow you to sell without further intervention or any additional fees.
Just like a newspaper advert you are allowed to post contact details and arrange viewings at any mutually agreed time and will  see the following prominently shown on a Classified Advert as below --( Not the same terms/conditions as for Vehicle Auction listings Category).

Contact the seller:
xxxx xxx xxx
This is a classified ad listing. There is no bidding on this item, so contact the seller for more information. Seller Feedback scores exclude classified listings.

Re: How can a potential buyer view a large item like a car

there are few people I know who will part with a significant sum of money until they have determined the car is correct for them.

There are plenty of buyers who can be conned into paying for motor vehicle they haven't even seen.

That's why, in a TV programme about organised crime, a senior police officer reported that one criminal gang alone had registered "multiple hundreds" of fake accounts on eBay to place fraudulent listings for non-existent motor vehicles. Becaus some people are unbelievably trusting.

Only last week we heard from a buyer who had paid a £5,000 deposit on a promise that the seller would pick him up and take him to see it. He will have lsot it, as there's no buyer protectionfor vehicles (or deposits).

eBay is so scared of buyers and sellers using an inspection visit to make a private deal to avoid paying eBay's fees that they now prohibit the collection address from being revealed untitl the buyer has committed to buy the item. eBay's idea seems to be that if the vehicle is not as described the buyer can ask the seller to cancel the sale. In reality, some sellers will disagree witt the buyer, open an unpaid item case against them and leave the innocent buyer with an unpaid item strike from eBay.

This can probably be successfully appealed, but the fact that a buyer can be bullied and penalised for refusing to pay for a vehicle that they were not even allowed to inspect first is a major deterrent to buying one on eBay.
