I just joined eBay in October and my first order has been eye opening. The goods were nothing like the pictures, quality was appalling so I returned them and left negative feedback. The goods arrived back with me yesterday as the return label provided by the seller was false! My account states refund complete - I have not received a refund. To top it off I checked my account this morning and my feedback has been altered to positive and "hope to do business with you again"!! My attempt to report this to eBay is sitting waiting to submit but appears to be going nowhere! Total sham 😡

Refunds return to the source of the funding and can take a while to arrive after ebay says you have been refunded.

Your negative feedback for the seller is still there, the positive you were looking at was left for you as a buyer.

Thanks for your response. The refund has still not been paid and it has been more than the 3-5 working days advised. Tbh it's not a lot of money but the fact that the goods have bounced straight back to me as "not at the address" is concerning don't you think?

 This was my first time using eBay so the feedback thing I'm unfamiliar with, though I have to say I couldn't find my negative feedback.

As it goes this hasn't been a good experience for me and I'm afraid I remain convinced that a lot of people are being scammed by sellers peddling absolute rubbish with apparently no avenue for recourse.  My attempt to contact eBay repeatedly failed to send and as a result I gave up which I would say is exactly what they want.

As long as eBay sent you a message that a refund is being made then all is well. As with many of eBay's messages the whole ' truth' is not portrayed,  and a 3 - 5 day estimate can be a tad optimistic.

Once eBay notify you the refund is made,  being processed,  then it's not instantly returned to you,  and does go back to original payment source.  There's no need here to contact eBay.

If you paid with PayPal funds, it goes back to your PayPal account fairly swiftly.

Paying with a debit / bank card?  Can take up to 12 days to appear back in your bank account.

Credit card payment?  This takes the longest,  up to 30 days to appear back in the card account used.

 I did pay by credit card, I've learned to do this when buying online as additional protection, so guess I'll be waiting a while! As previously said the fact the returned goods have bounced back to me is concerning.

Aaah  yes, then that is the longest wait up to 30 days, a full b illing cycle. It doesn't have to be this long but it will fall in that timeframe.

As for the item bouncing back to you, it's up to the seller to let you know if they want it sending back to them,  and of course they need to pay for that fully tracked postage, doubt they'll want it back, and it's case closed as a refund is being processed.

Did you actually use the eBay money back guarantee?   You say that "returns are charged" but if you had used the "not as described" case the label would have had an address with eBay confirmation and would have been paid for by the seller.  

If you did have to pay for postage for a £6-odd item it hardly seems worth it.  You normally pay to return only where you bought by mistake or simply did not like it. 

If a seller repeatedly sends poor items the MBG works perfectly to get refunds at no cost to buyer and - if there are sufficient negatives etc - eBay may well remove the seller.

When you look at feedback, you have to look along the top for FEEDBACK LEFT FOR OTHERS. There is also  choice of received as buyer, received as seller and all feedback.

You need to explore more as that is best way to find your way around.

You can also look at the sellers feedback  by clicking on ID of seller or the number after their ID.
