Extra fee of £1 per item

I bought two books today off ebay and paid by paypal. For each item I was charged an additional pound. (showing as pending on my credit card),

What does your paypal account show? eg does it include this extra pound for each item?

It may be that the pending payment is a pre authorising one? We have now access to your account or your credit card, if unsure contact them, I am sure they will give you the answer you need.

This is an odd ' payment' seen by many and neither PayPal or eBay seem to confirm their point or purpose! 

As far as anyone here can understand it's some form of verification that a payment provider is making and those who have seen this £1 charge tell us as soon as the payment has been processed successfully the £1 'charge'  is credited back!
