Ebay unfair gave buyer refund and label to return

I sold an Antique bowl for a fair price the buyer stated it wasnt as expected?  but it wasnt misdescribed got a letter from someone in Antiques to say not worth what he bought for .  Ebay said he had to return it and gave him the label to return uninsured The bowl arrived broken they hadnt insured the package they gave the buyer full refund and me half of what i had sold it.  I stopped the payment to Ebay as NOT my fault i appealed several times fell on deaf ears NOw they have sent Debt collection agency after me  Absolute joke you cannot converse with Ebay properly i provided all photos of broken item within hour of receiving back

The buyer shouldn't have got a refund and you shouldn't have lost out if they returned the bowl and it was damaged. Presumably you reported it straight away to eBay, before they made a refund. It sounds like some time has now passed, so it's a bit too late to pursue this via eBay.

The problem you have now is that the debt collector owns the debt, not eBay, and they're the ones chasing you. The debt will just get bigger if not paid.

How much money did you lose in the end?

If not a large amount I'd pay it, just to get some closure here.

Ah, that's a lot, I was hoping you were going to say £15.

How long ago did this happen?

I feel that you're too late to pursue this now via eBay.

So your buyer didn't open a case under eBay's money back guarantee? From your description it almost sounds as though eBay just gave them a goodwill refund, and gave the buyer a prepaid label to return it to you?

If no case was found against you for the item not being as described I don't see what right eBay had to refund you only half of the selling price. Indeed, I don't see how the need to refund you even arose, as if eBay refunded the buyer as a goodwill gesture it shouldn't have been taken from your sale proceeds anyway.

It isn't even clear what eBay wanted to charge you for, if eBay paid for both the return label and the buyer's refund. (If these payments had been charged to you it would have been different, but if so you would surely have stated this?)

Without a clearer picture of exactly what happened it's hard to offer  any meaningful suggestions.

How did ebay get involved?

Buyer should open a NOT AS  DESCRIBED CASE, which you have to deal with, only if you do nothing would buyer be able to escalate to ebay. Once ebay get involved, then it gets expensive for seller.
