Ebay refunded buyer case closed cant do anything

So my son sold a pc which buyer opened a clain saying not as described so sone get the email to arrange for the PC to be returned but the buyer don't want to send back due to weight. The buyer has replaced the ram and wanting part refund my son has asked for the old ram to be sent back but buyer don't know where it is. Now ebay have closed this and refunded the buyer and kept the PC should of the buyer been allowed to replace parts before anything was sorted and if they did return the item it would not of been in original state as sold now he is gonna be £700 out of pocket and he is struggling for money as it is being at uni

It looks like while your son was negotiating with the buyer the time limit for him to provide a paid for return label ran out and the buyer escalated the case so ebay forced a refund.

He should have issued the returns label, got the item back, and then we could have guided him on the next steps if he got back something different, it's too late for that now.

There is nothing your son can do now but try to get the item back outside of ebay.

Son is fairly new to ebay so seems the buyer knew what he was doing trying to stall for time

Many 'scams' on ebay only work because one of the parties knows the rules and the other doesn't.
