Since the new Ebay buyer protection came in not only have sales died a death for private sellers I have just learnt that when a seller accepts a return the refund will consist of:
Cost of Item
Original Postage
PLUS a refund of the buyer protection
Example
cost of item £35.00
postage £3.39
BPF £2.12
Refund amount £40.51
Plus you will of course be billed separately for the cost of the return postage.

When a refund is issued the seller refunds the payment they received, selling price and postage and eBay refund the BPF portion

Has this a actually happened, as I do not see how something you do not receive can be refunded.
The buyer pays ebay for the protection, not the seller!
Are you sure that it is not just a reversal of the original transaction, and you have been credited the amount of the buyer protection, just as when paid it shows as received then deducted by ebay.

Claim from the buyer was for “ Arrived damaged” seller accepted return and the breakdown in the example I posted is what the seller is being asked to refund.
Refund has not been made yet though….do you expect it to reverse out again then?

When the refund was actually made it was just for the amount minus the BPF.
Thank you both for your help
