Hi...I listed a car as a classified and within minutes a buyer made an offer that was auto accepted. After 4 days it became obvious that the buyer was not going to complete the sale as he was not responding to messages or making arrangements to collect the vehicle. I cancelled the sale and reported the buyer to Ebay and relisted the car. Ebay are now trying to hit me for another £20 for relisting it and have not credited the first £20 i have already paid....this cant be right...surely??

Yes, it's right. With a classified ad you pay to place the advert. eBay doesn't guarantee that it will sell. If it doesn't and you place a second ad, you pay again.
The big advangtage of a classified ad is that you complete the sale outside of eBay. You can leave the ad in place and not close it until a sale is successfully completed. Or it times out.
I'm not sure what went wrong here. Perhaps it was because you set your preferences to auto-accept offers? But eBay wouldn't have enforced this for a classified ad, so you didn't have to close the ad. Or did accepting the offer prevent other buyers from making one? If so, you could try to persuade eBay to let you relist it foc. Good luck!

Fees for vehicle listings are not refundable whether the car sells or not. Don't use Best Offer then you decide when to end it.

Thanks for reply...will contact my bank and tell them not to pay the fee and transfer balance to my wifes account so no funds are available

if you do that and fail to pay the fee eBay will chase it all the way, including debt collectors.
It could also mean your account being closed and that would affect any account with any connection to your account.

So you are going to break the terms of your contract with ebay, and announce that on an ebay board!

It may seem harsh, but it would be the same if you listed your item in your local paper and the vehicle didn't sell, the paper would not refund you your advertising fees, and they would charge you listing fees again, if you relisted the vehicle.
As advised, do pay those fees, they are due, eBay do indeed chase unpaid fees, and use debt collectors.
Most would agree, to list a vehicle best option is to use a Classified ad format.

Thanks to all that took the time to reply. It was Ebay that ended the listing, not me and I was not notified that the listing would end if a best offer was accepted. If the ad was in a paper the ad would continue to run regardless of any offers that had been made and I didnt end the listing. Relisting is free in the normal course of events if the buyer fails to complete the transaction so why should that be any different with the classifieds? With so many non payers frequenting the vehicle classifieds Ebay should charge the idiots making offers with no intention of completing the sale as bids are legally binding, as they often remind you. You are not even allowed to leave negative feedback to warn others that non payers are not to be trusted so they appear to other users as genuine, good Ebayers when in fact, the complete opposite is the real case. No wonders so many now use Vinted and other platforms...I rarely use Ebay these days for exactly these types of incidents. The car will be sold through an auction where people and their money are real and sales are truly, legally binding.

Thanks for the link tressygirl...I did take a look and as you said, its"all you need to know about selling with classified ads"...and there is no mention of the ad being ended if a best offer has been auto accepted and fees being due for a relist.
Fortunately sense prevailed and after contacting Ebay the secondary charge for relisting was removed and I have now taken off the auto accept feature so the circumstances do not repeat with the current listing.
Many thanks for all who contributed....your the best.
