I bought AAA instead of AA batteries. Return address is in China when original was in Birmingham (& it only took a few days to arrive suggesting it came from Birmingham!). The cost of postage to China will acceed the cost of the item! Also their policy states 'print out your preferred courier label'. Don't know how to do this and there are no options. Any advice?

If it says Birmingham on the listing as the place they were coming from then that is where they go back too.
If they are insisting on China then contact ebay

Weekdays lines open between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Weekends they open between 9 a.m. aand 6 p.m.

Have you opened a returns case?
if so and they are using a Chinese return address you should report them to ebay.
They should be returned to Birmingham at your cost, but my suggestion would be to keep them, you never know when you might need AAAs.

I agree with @papso22
You will need to pay for the return postage using a tracked method.
It may not be worth it unless you purchased a lot of batteries.

If you do return them ensure they are still in their original retail packaging and surrounded with a cushioned material eg Bubblewrap. These are the Royal Mail conditions for acceptance. You will also need to put your senders short address on package.
