Seller sent my item to the wrong person, and I got the item that the other person ordered. Seller asked me to forward it to the other buyer, and assured me that they would do the same; in other words, me and the other buyer would swap items, and we'd finally both get what we ordered. I kept my side of the bargain, but for whatever reason, I never got my item from the other buyer; ended up paying for nothing. All this is verified by the messages between me and the seller, but despite that EBay rejected both my "case" and appeal, and apparently I'm not even allowed to leave negative feedback. Feeling cheated, and disappointed in total lack of customer support from EBay.

The seller was wrong to ask you to send to another member.
You needed to open an 'item not as described' case, return the item to the seller and get a full refund.
Then, if you chose, you could have repurchased the item.
If you opened an 'item not received' case, it would be closed.
If you are wihin 30 days of receipt, you could still open an 'item not as described' case.
If you have tracking showing you posted the item to the other buyer, you could add that to the case.
You have done a favour for the seller and they have treated you badly - open an 'INAD' case and remind the seller that you should not lose out because of their error.

Thanks very much for the reply. Unfortunately it was more than 30 days ago, so I guess there's not much to be done now. Thanks anyway.

You could try explaining to your payment provider, they might be able to help.
You should leave negative feedback for seller, but just say something like “very poor buying experience”. Do not go into details as seller might be able to get it removed.
