Damaged goods

I puchased a opal doublet ring in 9ct gold, half eternity ring in October costing £237.50. one of the opals has started to disintegrate and has crumbled away at the side. As this is only 5 months ago that it was purchased I am very disappointed. I feel that a refund is justified. I have tried to contact seller twice over the last week but have received no response.  I am very disappointed now that the ring has lost one of its opals.  What can I do?

There isn't a way to get your money back now via eBay or PayPal (you have 30 days there to open a return) or via your card provider if you paid with a debit or credit card (120 days).

If your seller is a UK registered business seller then you may want to look at taking legal action against them, but do check their registration country.

You do have to treat opals with love.

Not wearing them can cause them to dry out which can cause dullness and, ultimately crumbling.

You shouldn't wear them in the bath or shower and definitely not if you are doing the washing up.

They are beautiful but not really as durable as some other gems.

If you can't get a refund or repair, it may be worth having the opal replaced at your own expense rather than simply not wearing the ring.
