In January I received a Polystone Marvel statue. It arrived smashed to bits.
After I got the smashed contents, the seller, from Japan, was full of apologies and we can sort this out together, it won't be a problem. Fine, I said, I'm a reasonable person, let's work this out.
Fast forward to the start of April. Japan Post are not coughing up the insurance. So, the seller is back to uber, uber apology mode, yet no refund, I've asked the seller, twice. No response but, benefit of the doubt, Japan is 8 hrs plus GMT.
I've tried a buyer protection, the second person I talked to said I would get the full amount refunded. Then it went disastrous. Every chat rep soon after that... It was like a diagonal upward 45 degree line on a graph. X axis, passage of time. Y axis, this is not our problem. I guess both X and Y could be switched but, that's beside the point, just my Physics brain, ticking along.
How can chat reps just get away with lying like that? I mean, the first positive chat rep..... Full refund, 5 to 7 working days. No joke, the word "promise" about the refund was used twice, by two early chat reps. before the graph went woooosht.
Then, most recently, it's just become completely brazen. Metaphorically slapping me around the head by saying "this case is closed". Eh, it's far from closed. I did have a bit of a meltdown at this point. Eek. I sent the mail where the chat rep said I'd get a full refund to the incident number address, ha hem, 20 times.
Yuh, I was angry. "This case is closed". It aint.
I guess my best hope of getting a refund is saying, I've been told by chat reps that I'd receive it. Oh, wait, I did that. eBay point blank, do not admit to making mistakes, which makes it all the more frustrating when I say to them, "just admit that I was lied to". They're never going to admit to it.
When it comes to eBay's chat reps lying, there is no response you will receive that is true. Not even to say that the chat rep didn't have the correct information or.... something. It's all lies, so that they're covering themselves. eBay say, zero lies were told. Despite several lies being told. Plus pointed out and quoted in quotation marks. Lie by lie. Then, that, this case is now closed, thing. I was fuming after that. Should have done 30 mails to them, sending the positive refund email.
I guess I should do a question, after all that waffle... Sorry.
Has anyone had any success where a colleague has said... This will happen, I promise. Then, 5 minutes later another person says, this will definitely not happen.
Yuh. Anyone received the same treatment who could please help me? I'd be ever so grateful.

eBay's money back guarantee only lasts for 30 days. If you didn't open a case within that time, or you opened one and it has now timed out, the matter will be closed as far as eBay is concerned.
We don't know how you paid for tis item, but it's possible that your payment povider e.g. credit or debit card issuer may be able to help. Their time limit to claim is longer, probably about 120 days. Failing this it's hard to suggest any other way of getting your money back, as there's no point in mentionng legal action if the seller in Japan.

Ebay reps tell you what you want to hear to get you off the line.
We see a lot of posts where this happens and none where ebay has stood by what a rep has said/promised.
If you had used the money back guarantee there would have been no need for these false promises. The guarantee would have got you the refund.
