Commodity Codes

Hi,

How do I input a commodity code on my eBay listings and have it applied.

I’m selling Collectors coins and eBay buyers in Europe are being charged ~20% VAT. This is WRONG!

For collectors coins, the correct rate is ~6%
Commodity* Code 39053900 pre-1925

39054000 post 1925.

Ebay are using the rate for coins which are primarily bullion or currency, with no claim to collector interest.

Is this an oversight? If my prices are inflated by ~14 unnecessary percent, I’m losing out.

Does eBay had over the excess VAT?

* Commodity code = Tariff, HS, or HTS code.

The codes can be googled to get the descriptions.

Thanks

The only place where you get the chance to add the HS code is on the customs form, you can't add it to your listing.

I assume that the only way for an overseas buyer to deal with this would be to pay the tax to Ebay (who collect it and pass it on) and then claim it back from HMRC.

I do agree that Ebay should not be charging your buyers in this way but I don't believe that Ebay will change their process unless multiple sellers get together and try to get a change made.
