Good Morning
I've sold a large 'collection in person only' item. The buyer has paid, but is sending a national van & man company to collect.
1. Since the buyer has stated in eBay messaging they will not be present (it's too far away) they will not be able to inspect the item. I fully described the condition in the listing but obviously I'm not going to be responsible for any damages or loss of parts incurred in transport by a third party. What is my position with eBay if they raise an issue once the item is delivered to them?
2. How do I ensure I get the collection code prior to releasing the item? Can they email me a screenshot vof the QR code? If they give me the 6 digit code, how do I know if it is real?
This is only my second sale on eBay for a very long time - things have changed.
Thanks in advance.

Noting has changed about a buyer sending a courier, a third party, that is, they lose all buyer protection and cannot later open any case for item not as described.
The collection code is very important.
Send the buyer a polite message to say the courier driver Must bring with them the 6 digit collection code, without this, you cannot release the item.
I would also recommend scanning / entering those numbers to mark as collected, when the driver is still there, to make sure it is correct and marks the item as collected.

Thank you for your reply.
Will they have been sent the collection code already, the auction ended on Monday this week? Can I ask for a screenshot of the email from eBay with the code ( they can blur out their email address on a screenshot)?
I cannot scan a six digit code, only a QR code. What shows up on my screen when I enter the 6 digit code? I can see at my end it gives both options, to scan or enter code.
Does something show on the screen that the code (in whatever format) has been accepted and is correct?
Like I said it has been a long time (nearly two decades) since I sold anything.

I too, since SD has appeared on the scene have not sold any collection items with this new service, but understand once a collection item has been bought and paid for, eBay send the buyer this 6 digit QR collection code.
You cannot ask for a screenshot with the code, because in reality you could enter it and it would show collection! It's a code the buyer must bring with them on collection day.
The buyer should find the code in their email , perhaps a check in Spam too if necessary, their eBay messages or in the order details for the item. It must be in one of those places if not, it's the buyer who needs to contact Customer Services for this code, because Do Not release the item without receiving the code.
You then scan or enter it where it states Confirm collection on the order details.

I've searched all the help articles for an answer but have come up blank.
You say you haven't used collection only since recent changes were implemented, so you don't know what appears on the screen once a code is entered?

Once you enter the 6 digit code it's marked as collected on the order.

Thank you so much, I was concerned that there was the potential for a scam with the buyer not being present.
Thank you both for your kind replies
