Changes to private selling on eBay

Hi Tobias,

I have.

They all appear to be on the angry side.

I'm looking to read/hear more agreeable comments.

Ones that will give me the thinking that I shouldn't just call it a day after 20+ years.

Changes to private selling on eBay

I was led to this board by eBay.

Having taken a quick look at the discussion board, it's much the same.

Is the ebay community board not a place to ask for agreeable comments?

Changes to private selling on eBay

This board is for advice about ebay issues.

Wether those that reply agree with ebay policies is irrelevant as we can't change them.

My only comment is that there are too many private sellers who should be registered as business ones.

300 listings are more than enough for genuine private sellers.

Ebay are obviously cracking down on them.

Changes to private selling on eBay

This definitely appears to be an issue going by the multiple comments it's generated elsewhere in such a short space of time.

I never thought for one moment any of us could change eBay policy, it'd be easier to redraft the Magna Carta but if enough Users raise enough worthwhile debates, maybe, just maybe, they may take notice & for once, rescind a policy.

It's only a thought though no matter how daft I sound.

I agree with your comment about Business Sellers but is that the real reason for making these changes?

All other 'changes' eBay have implemented over the years only serve for those with enough savvy to circumnavigate their failings, have you been on here long enough to recall why they put a levy on postage costs nearly 20 years back? (A levy which is fraudulent)

To be honest, I don't think 300 is acceptable, how are small private Sellers expected to Cross-Sell.

We don't get enough exposure as it is.

We're not high volume Sellers & ultimately, they're the Sellers eBay promote, regardless of the tat they sell.

Why pay more for less.

You are probably right 300 isn't acceptable. For genuine private sellers 100 a month would be more than enough.

Only Mentors or eBay staff can answer on this board, whereas any one can answer on discussion boards.

You are not going to find any mentors who think this is a bad move.  In fact some of us think it doesn't go far enough, particularly when it still allows good till cancelled to roll over outside the allowance.

Changes to private selling on eBay

I find it curious that the replies to my original query (all 6 of them) come from 'Mentors' who appear to be only interested in stating that this is not a discussion forum & believe cutting back monthly listing allowances is the right thing to do.

The actual header title for this forum is;

eBay UK Community > Help from the Community > Member to Member Support > Re: Changes to private selling on eBay.

3 replies are from 'Experienced Mentors'

Of which all have nothing for sale nor have recently sold in any great volume.

1 has sold 1 item in a month, 1 has sold 11 items in one year, 1 has sold 9 items in a month.

Another is a Business Seller based in Ireland, why this 'mentor' decide to comment on this matter as it's relating to Private Sellers & how HMRC will affect them is beyond me & instead of 'mentoring a mentee' had a craic at been a comic, without much success.

According to eBay, the definition of an eBay mentor is as follows;

"An eBay mentor is a person who uses their experience to help others succeed on eBay. Mentors are a key part of the eBay community. Mentors can help mentees by:
Providing guidance, advice, feedback, and support
Serving as a role model, teacher, counselor, advisor, sponsor, advocate, and ally
Helping mentees develop their skills and talents
Helping mentees reach their personal and professional goals
Offering instructions on how to perform particular tasks"

So much for that thinking.
Can't wait for the flak to start appearing.
End of discussion

Why do think replies will be different?

Ebay have created new policy, they don't ask our opinion.

If you have an issue with policy, contact eBay CS.

You have clearly never heard of 'posting accounts'.

Also you have referenced 'mentors' not 'community mentors '.  We 'community mentors' do not actively mentor anyone.

THere is no flak coming from any of us, so I don't know why you think that is the case.

As previously and correctly mentioned only ebay community mentors and ebay staff can answer the ebay member to member boards which as you kindly highlighted for us is where your original post is placed:

The actual header title for this forum is;

eBay UK Community > Help from the Community > Member to Member Support > Re: Changes to private selling on eBay. This board is a restricted one, as mentioned if you would like wider conversation then it would be better placed somewhere like seller central.

We are community members who give OUR time for free as volunteers to help people fathom ebay and don't get me wrong there are some fathomable pits!

However here are the details on the community mentor program.

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Community-Notice-Board/Community-Mentor-Programme/ba-p/7612430

However if you believe helping people is a good thing then you are more than welcome to apply, via the link provided above.

We have provided our comments as you requested per your opening post.
