Buyer wants me to delay posting

Sold an item on Tuesday, buyer added a note to the payment stating they aren't in the country until the end of November, and hold the item till then!

I'm selling my items to make space in the house now, not near 3 weeks time.  I'm due to have a procedure done that week and don't intend posting that week... infact I'm probably done until the new year.

Buyer never contacted me beforehand to ask if it was possible for me to accommodate this request, literally told me to hold onto it until they return.

I told them as such, saying Ebay has told me I had until the 15th (today) to send the item.  They said they have been on Ebay 20 years and have had other sellers hold items for them.

I replied saying good for them, however I've also been on here almost 20 years now and pride myself in posting within the time frames.  They have since sent me a relatives address to post the item to, however I'm not doing that as its not the registered address.

Would anyone know if this sale will automatically cancel if not posted, or if I cancel the sale will I get negative feedback?

You can cancel using "something wrong with buyer's address".    That won't have any affect on your account.    The refund will be issued in the process.   And put their ID on your blocked bidder list:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bmgt/BuyerBlock

In theory it's still possible for the buyer to leave f/b but the link is harder to find after cancellation so they  probably won't.
