Buyer says vinyl record is scratched

I sold a very near mint vinyl record from my collection that had been played once and the buyer says it is scratched and that it jumped. He then asked what we could do about it (I think he was phishing for a partial) but I stood my ground and suggested that the record could have been dropped to which he flew completely off the rails, told me that he would no longer deal with me, had reported me to ebay and that he was looking forward to leaving me feedback.

He then opened a return case,  I have since contacted him to see if we can find a solution by way of a partial refund to which I have radio silence.

I cannot find a way to speak with ebay and am feeling like I am bullied into a corner to send a refund and let him keep the record in an attempt to save my feedback score .  The sale was £18 plus postage.

Any advice would be most welcome.

There is no need for the buyer to get in touch again - especially as they are probably not happy that you suggested they had dropped the record.

In your shoes, I would just follow the Ebay procedure,

Supply a label, get the record back and then refund the buyer.

I don't know why you think they are angling for a partial refund or a refund without return.

If you check the Ebay feedback rules, it does now say that, if you deal with a case properly - accept the return, supply a label, refund on return - you can ask to have feedback removed.

You have returns accepted within 14 days.

But if buyer opened item not as described case, you have to accept & issue returns label or just refund without return.

I think the easiest option is for me to simply send a refund, swallow it and put it down to experience.  If he is mean enough to still leave me negative feedback I will ask ebay if they can remove it.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend.
