Buyer reduced postage from my advertised small parcel rate, to a large letter <100g rate which was obviously inadequate. The Post Office accepted the package and tried to deliver it, leaving a £1.50 to be paid request.
The buyer claimed it was not delivered. Knowing the Post Office policy is not to issue a refund for lost items for 14 days, I asked her to wait a fortnight, which she did. I then issued a refund.
Two days ago the parcel was returned to me labelled 'underpaid'.
The buyer has now emailed me saying she is trying to find out from the depot what has happened to the parcel.
The issue was initiated by the buyer altering and underpaying for postage, ignoring the Post Office's initial 'Fee to Pay' notice and not contacting the depot when she had obviously had a notice.

Buyers can only select postage you listed.
They will almost go for the cheapest.
You have to make sure you put correct weight & size of packed item when selecting postage rates.
That said, Simple delivery is a nightmare.

Thank you for your reply Tobias. I did. I set the postage at £2.70 as a small parcel. This was before simple delivery was a thing. However the site allowed her to select the postage rate and she chose Large letter <100g. I expected a problem when I dropped it off and to me Post Office accepting it was a bonus.
It struck me though she knew the score when she reported it undelivered and subsequently dobbed herself in posting to me that she had to go to the depot to sort it out. Clearly she had had a notice telling her to go.
It concerned me that having refunded her a couple of weeks after the 'non-delivery' she might try and gain compensation from EBay too, which would then be reclaimed from me. So I have reported the matter to EBay.
Being a confirmed Luddite and technophobe, I was very anti simple delivery. Faffing around photographing QR codes is definitely not my bag. But, my Post Office are able to accept just the six letter / digit code written on the envelope. They only need photos for items delivered through the Post Office directly. Whoopee, I suddenly prefer EVRI, it'll save me writing out addresses by hand. To my surprise I am coping.
