Buyer messaged me about a return but they haven't opened a return yet

The buyer messaged me to say they weren't happy with an item. They said the colour wasn't the same as in the photo.  I advised them in a message to open a return formally as I had no way of doing that from my side. They haven't replied since. How long do they have to put in a return request?

Buyers have 30 days to open ebay case, they can open 1 later than that, but won't won't be able to escalate it.

You are right not to do anything unless case is opened.
