Buyer has not taken delivery

I sold an item internationally for a fairly large amount roughly six months ago now. It took some time to get through the customs of the destination country, but eventually got through, and the buyer then didn’t take delivery of it (I have tracking proof). The buyer contacted me and requested I send it back, which I did and paid for the extra shipping cost myself. The item was then sent overseas again, and after some time, showed back up on my doorstep with the parcel labelled as unclaimed. I checked the tracking, and again the buyer had not taken delivery of it. I’ve received no communication from the buyer, they’ve not raised a returns case, and the item has long gone past the refund window. I’m wondering what on earth to do here?

It's up to you.   They are way too late to do anything about it via ebay.   If you refund their money it's too late to do that properly too.   You'd have to send as payment using something like Paypal but would need their email address for that.

Personally I would wait for the buyer to contact you, the label you said it was unclaimed, was this due to them not paying the customs fee (if there was one) it should say on the cover of the package somewhere if this was the case.

If it was uncollected due to this then the seller has invalidated the ebay MBG although you are outside of this anyway.

There seems to have been no issues with customs fees.  Looking through the tracking of the item, delivery was attempted twice and there was no answer.  The item was then held at the local post office for a week for the buyer to collect and they didn’t ( this is the same case in both instances of me posting the item).  The item was then sent back to me on both occasions labelled as unclaimed

To be honest you should have cancelled after the first non collection, unless buyer paid the extra

postage.

There is nothing buyer can do through ebay, but if refunding by any method, deduct the additional expense you incurred.

Probably naive on my part sending it back, but I was trying to be helpful given the value. I did still have the option to resend through eBay label at the time which I did, but yes, I incurred the expense.
